Troubling New Developments In The Lobster Creek Fire

Troubling new developments have come to light after the Lobster Creek Fire Investigation began.  As we initially reported, the Lobster Creek Fire was reported Sunday afternoon.  Crews were able to respond by 2 PM.  The campers at Lobster Creek County Park were evacuated to the Port of Gold Beach.  The fire quickly grew to 450 Acres by the following day.  Coos Fire District ground crews faced 70 degree slopes and 30 mile an hour winds.  Areal crews faced strong head winds and thermals requiring the full depth of piloting skills.  Crews battled the fire throughout the night creating a wet line and managing to establish an astounding 10% containment in a single night.

As the sun rose, Investigators set to work.  The identity of the group who rented out the park was revealed.  The Next Generation Climate Justice Action Camp booked the camp for a training session.  This camp is offered by the Civil Liberties Defense Center.  A group that has been the repeated subject of criminal investigations related to defending perpetrators of acts of eco terrorism.  Most unsettling is that this particular camp session was training children how to engage in these actions.  A child’s prefrontal cortex is not fully formed until adulthood.  This effects judgement and decision making.  The combination of radical ideologies and poor decision making skills is generally discouraged by every qualified psychologist.

The group of campers rather quickly invoked legal council.  We will not be providing the names of the youths involved.  I intentionally didn’t ask our media contact.  We did reach out for comment and were directed to their Facebook page for comment.  I won’t write the exact quote.  We’re a G rated website after all.

The “grass fire” as it was referred to destroyed a young grove of the northern most Giant Redwoods Known to exist.  The grove was planted to help restore these giant trees throughout the Pacific Northwest.  There are also 500 of the hardest working people in the state putting out a fire instead of celebrating our Nation’s Independence with their families.

Investigators from Curry County Sheriff’s Office, Coos FPD, ODF, and State Police are actively examining evidence.  Sheriff John Ward praised the fast response and rapid attack strategy.  When asked if the campers were cooperating, he stiffened and informed us they have chosen not to cooperate with the investigation.  Currently, no charges have been filed.  These situations tend to have a way of working the truth out.

Last year’s Eagle Creek Fire is very present in people’s minds around the area.  Many rumors are flying around but there are more important questions to be asked.   The front page of the group’s website shows 2 people using bolt cutters on a chain securing a valve.  Those depicted aren’t industrial employees.

Did anyone research the group renting a $3 Million Dollar piece of county property?

Did the county know this was the program being taught to minors on County Property?

Did the County know this Organization has been the subject of Bar Review for supporting known Eco Terrorism Groups?

I don’t like writing these kinds of articles.  I want to write about the amazing work our Fish and Wildlife professionals do.  As a wildlife writer, I have to write the unpleasant things as well.  This is unpleasant because no matter how I write this article, someone is not going to like it.  I can’t help but feel something about this story.  Children were being taught aggressive protest techniques in a secluded area without supervision.

As a sportsman, I’m troubled by youth being trained in such a way.  We mentor youth to use rational discussion.  We encourage them to see the other person’s side.  We teach compromise and sharing.  We teach youth to love the land.

I’m deeply troubled to see any child taught that it’s ok to yell at others or destroy their property because they decided that person doesn’t have a right to make a living.  There is one thing my readers should know.  This wasn’t the only “Camp” session conducted.  This program is replicated throughout the country.  The most troubling issue is how many children received this aggressive protest “education” by people who admittedly support an ends justify the means protest methodology.
