Pacfic Crest Endurance Sports Festival raises over $80,000

Sunriver, OR – A total of 3273 athletes from all over the USA and 9 other countries including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Japan, Peru, Netherlands, and Singapore converged in the small resort town of Sunriver Oregon, approximately 15 minutes from Bend Oregon to participate in the 24th Annual Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival. The event occurs over 3 days and offers 20 different endurance events including the BEASTMAN, Olympic and UltraSprint Triathlon, Duathlon and AquaBike distances, Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, 28K & 50K Trail Runs, Bike Tours, Kids races and more.

Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival positively impacts various local non-profits from the community. Sherri McMillan, race director for Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival reports that “Pacific Crest 2019 will surpass $80 thousand dollars raised due to the efforts of various fundraising teams including Team in Training OSWIM who raised $38,705 and B.Strong from San Diego who raised $19,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In addition, the event raised over $10,000 for Care for Kids, $6000 for two local running clubs, over $3000 for local PEO groups, over $1000 for local Wrestling Club, $1000 for Lava City Roller Girls, $500 for local Fast Pitch Team, $750 for Changing Patterns, over $500 for Guardian Group, $250 for Central Oregon Running Klub and more! It takes a tribe of incredible people willing to give their time to support our athletes and it’s amazing what a weekend of fun and racing can do to support others and our community.” Over the years, Pacific Crest has raised over $3 million for various non-profits.

One of the emotional highlights of the event included Larry Watts, who in 2018 suffered a heart attack during the Pacific Crest Half Marathon. He came back in 2019 and finished the race with his son and was able to thank all of those who saved his life. The Bend Bulletin did two stories on his inspirational journey.

An additional highlight is the 600 kids participating in the kids’ events at Pacific Crest. “It’s awesome to be able to provide this fun and healthy opportunity for kids to be active and get off their electronic devices” says McMillan. “Since these events are also fundraisers, we are also teaching kids the importance of giving back!”
