Ian Sharman is on track to crush 2 Western States 100 records

UltrAspire athlete, Ian Sharman, aims to make history at Western States

Western States 100 is the world’s oldest 100 mile endurance trail race.  The Western States Trail Ride started off in 1955 as 5 horsemen riding from the post office in Tahoe City to Auburn, California, to prove that their horses could ride 100 miles in a day.  In 1974 Gordy Ainsleigh ran alongside the horses and finished the trail in less than 24 hours proving that a runner could tackle this incredible 100-mile endurance trail, too.

UltrAspire Elite athlete, Ian Sharman, has raced at Western States for the last 9 years and has finished in the top 10 every year.  Each year he has completed the 100 mile trail in less than 18 hours. Ian’s goal for his 10th consecutive year is to be the first person to finish in the top 10 at Western States in his first 10 attempts.  When Ian finishes in the top 10 this year, he could be the first person to complete 10 top 10 finishes at Western States and complete the 1,000 miles with a combined time of less than 7 days.  What an incredible feat!

Going forward he has plenty of goals after Western.  Ian also has 7 top 10 finishes at Comrade, which is the oldest, largest, and most competitive road ultramarathon in the world.  He is going to push for 10 top 10 finishes at Comrade as well.  Sharman is the current record holder for the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning and a successful endurance coach.  He has an incredible list of accomplishments and continues to add big titles to his resume.  Keep watching Ian Sharman.  He is going to continue to crush big goals.
