Missouri Department Of Conservation Invites Youth To Turkey Clinic And Hunt Near Kirksville April 6 – 7

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites new youth turkey hunters to prepare for spring turkey hunting season near Kirksville. MDC will offer an introduction to turkey hunting clinic to kids age 8 and older from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on April 6 at Fort Chariton, 26826 Yarrow Trail, southwest of Kirksville.

Participants will learn about wild turkey biology and habitat, hunting safety, calling, regulations, and methods. The clinic will also allow participants to practice shooting shotguns, calling in turkeys, and tactics for harvesting a turkey. Participants at the clinic can bring their own shotguns and ammunition, or MDC will provide them.

Youth ages 10-15 years old who attend the clinic and who have never harvested a turkey can sign up to participate in a mentored hunt on Saturday morning. Space is limited for this hunting opportunity and participants must preregister by visiting mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/156394. Lunch and photos will take place Saturday afternoon and hunters eat for free.

“This is an awesome opportunity for new hunters to go turkey hunting with an experienced guide, learn about turkeys, and maybe even harvest one,” said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Rob Garver.
