Agroforestry And Wildlife Field Day

Land management techniques, managing for wildlife and various backyard wildlife subjects top the list of topics at the Agroforestry and Wildlife Field Day slated for Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at the University of Georgia’s Westbrook Research Farm in Griffin, Georgia.
Held every three years, this unique educational event features federal and state government agency officials and representatives of private business to provide management recommendations and demonstrate real-life techniques.
In the area of land management, some of the most popular topics include thinning, prescribed burning, pinestraw production and the economics of longleaf pine management. Wildlife topics include quality deer management, feral hog control, quail habitat restoration, and management for waterfowl, turkey, and dove. Backyard wildlife topics range from beekeeping as a sideline business to attracting such fascinating backyard wildlife as bats and birds. Additional topics of interest include cost-share assistance, invasive insects and wild game preparation and cooking.
Registration opens at 8 a.m., with topic discussions scheduled between 9:15 a.m.–4:15 p.m. Attendees will shuttle between field day topic sites on foot or via tram and will receive a take-home booklet with in-depth topic and speaker information.
Registration is $25 prior to Sept. 6, 2018, ($30 after) and includes lunch. Pre-registrants will receive an Agroforestry and Wildlife Field Day ball cap. Field trip opportunity and special pricing is available for high school students.
