Recently, Google released a report on how Americans are beginning to look more into travel and what trends they’re starting to see in type of travel and destinations, according to a News & Insights report by the RV Industry Association (RVIA).
The report is part of Google’s Data Shorts, bite-sized, trend-driven stories drawn from the latest Google trends and search data. Google developed Data Shorts to provide marketers with an inside look at the latest Google data, helping them stay informed and inspired with high-level insights, compelling stats and useful tips.
So, what does the data show?
After an unprecedented drop in travel search in March, a rebound has come in the form of search around short trips, such as weekend getaways. And we are almost back to January numbers already. Recent traveler search has focused on outdoor destinations and “travel where they have control” such as campgrounds (+70%) and RVs (+100%).
In fact, “camping near me” is the highest it has ever been!
This should come as no surprise to the RV industry which has quickly recovered with unprecedented consumer demand.
National Parks and wilderness areas are topping traveler lists and they’re all over the map from Lake Tahoe to Yellowstone, the Adirondack Mountains, Camanche Reservoir, Warren Dunes and Beltsville State Park. Americans are also planning their winter vacations earlier than ever before. Searches in the category “winter travel destinations” grew by 30 percent year over year.
According to Google, travel confidence has come a long way since March and rising trends tell us Americans are still eager to travel, as long as we can keep each other safe. Consequently, Google expects local outdoor spots to continue to be 2020’s most popular vacation destination.
